from flowers on some Bush Lawyer vines growing
in waste ground at the side of the road near Rathehi.
The Bush Lawyer plant is a vine which has many tiny
little barbs that grab hold of your clothing or skin if you
brush up against it. The barbs are so small they are
difficult to see, but they are very sharp and once hooked
into clothing they are very difficult to unhook from.
In a similar way to the barbs on the plant, the energy
of the addictive process hooks itself into a person in
an insidious way. Most addicts do not realise that they
are becoming addicted until they are well and truly hooked.
Another interesting non-coincidence is that the shape of the leaves
of the Bush Lawyer plant are a little reminiscent of the shape of the
marijuana leaves, in that they are in a “pattern of five”.
