Mahoe (Berries)
Flower Essence
Melicytus ramiflorus
Definition:
For unfulfilled dreams and expectations.
Having an idea, and feeling let down, because
the other person would not come to the party.
Brings clarity to the illusion of trying to cast
other people in one's stage show.
A fruit essence, Made 4 April, 1998,
from berries from a Mahoe tree in the front garden
of the Buchanan Street, Wadestown, house.
The Mahoe is a New Zealand native tree.
The making of this essence is an interesting story.
(O.K., O.K., those of you who are bored by my
little stories can skip this next bit!)
This essence was made to fill a need that I had at the time.
It was Sunday (29th March, 1998), and I was feeling very
down because my girlfriend had broken a long-standing
tradition and not spent the whole Sunday afternoon with me!
She had gone home two hours earlier than usual,
because she “had some things to do”.
It was coming towards the end of our relationship,
and I was feeling very sad.
I wandered out into the garden, and became aware
that I could
make two new essences to help me with this issue.
I found one of the plants very quickly (Lilac Oxalis), but I had great difficulty finding the other.
I walked around and around the front garden, pendulum in hand, but could not find the plant.
My pendulum kept insisting that it was very close
to the western side of the front garden, but I could not see
anything there that could be it. Finally, I looked up,
and immediately above my head were some tiny berries
hanging from the branch of a tree. This was it!
I made both of the new essences a few days later,
and they helped me a great deal as I went through
the relationship break-up.
It was not until many months later that I obtained definitions
for either of these two essences. And, of course,
the definitions fitted perfectly the circumstances.
(The
Lilac Oxalis
is for “Feeling bitter about the way other people are behaving in one's life.
For when the inevitable happens, and things do not work out the way one wanted them to.”)

For a long time, I had not identified this tree.
I had labelled the bottles of Mother Tincture
of this essence “Violet Berry Tree”.
But, one day, when looking through John Salmon's
classic book on native trees of New Zealand, there it was!
I recognised the distinctive markings on the bark.
I took the book out to the tree and compared the very
distinctive bark markings with the photos in the
book, and they matched exactly.
So, the bottles were re-labelled “Mahoe”.
