Cream Sedum
Flower Essence
Sedum spectabile
Definition:
For fear of the traditional gender roles,
both men and women.
The male fear of the ball and chain around his ankle.
The female fear that she is not going to be a good mother.
Often manifests as “pre-wedding nerves”,
for both bride and groom.
A flower essence, Made 15 March, 2000,
from the beautiful cream flowers of Sedum plant
in the garden of Maree, at Te Horo Beach.
This plant, a member of the Crassula family,
when in flower, is dazzlingly beautiful.
These gender-specific fears, of “not being good enough”, of not
being good enough in those traditional family roles of provider or
mother..... these fears are very commonly held, and a major
reason must be the rapid changes that our global society has gone
through, and is still going through.
Back in the 1950's, and earlier, everyone just took it for granted
that most of us would fill these roles..... women got married and
had children, and men were in the work-force and took home their
pay-packet every week to provide for their family. This was certainly
the case when I was a child, and nobody even thought to question
the appropriateness of this.
Now, however, with a transformed society, and the on-going rapid
changes, these traditional roles are no longer just assumed to be
“the norm”. Both men and women have much wider horizons
available to them, with more choices open, but with this widening
of choices there has also come the potential for more self-doubt
and the feeling of the need to prove one's self-worth.
I prefer to see this in a positive light, as long as we are willing to
face up to the issues and take responsibility for ourselves and our
own development as healthy, growing humans.
