This is part of the garden in front of the house, which we call the “Cottage Garden”, because our intention has always been to gradually develop it into a cottage garden and herb garden. However, so far, it has grown mainly vegetables and a few herbs, and we have planted three small apple trees there.

This photo was taken the summer before last, when there were prolific pumpkins growing there. Last summer there were lots of potatoes where the pumpkins are in the photo, and also lots of silverbeet (which is still there), leeks, carrots, parsnips, tomatoes, and broccoli.

We have established some perennial herbs in this garden, including peppermint, lemon balm, mint, borage, sage, oregano. thyme, salad burnett, and clary sage. Daikon radishes come up every year, as do some lovely large red poppies (with edible seeds), a yellow daisy type plant, white allysum, and marigolds.
