History of the New Millennium Essences

The New Millennium Essences

Part 3 of Historical Summary

In Part One of this history, we covered the nine years, from the early beginnings in 1992, through to the point at the end of 2001, when the New Millennium Essences had been launched onto the global stage.   And, in Part Two, we covered from the end of 2001, over the very busy year of 2002, which included the development of the New Energy Essences, up until the very beginning of 2003......

On New Year's Eve, at the change of the old year of 2002 into the new year of 2003, Peter was working in the kitchen at the Convergence gathering, when a meeting took place that was to change his life. A woman suddenly appeared among all the people working in the kitchen that afternoon, a woman who seemed to know him, and who was vaguely familiar to him, but he could not quite figure out whether he knew her, or who she was.

Her energy was so sparkly and bright, and her smile was so radiant, that he was sure he knew her, and was a little embarrassed that she obviously knew him, but he could not recall her name, nor where and when they had previously met. Over the next day or two, they kept on bumping into each other, and every time, he was captivated by her smile and her sparkly personality.

On the final night of “Convergence”, at the concert that everybody attends, Peter found himself standing beside this mystery woman, still unable to recall her name, but feeling captivated by her energy. During the evening he confessed to her that he could not recall her name, and after the concert finished they were the last to leave, as they were so engrossed in their conversation. The following morning, as soon as Peter went into the kitchen, there she was again. They spent a lot of time together that final day of “Convergence”, Peter and Glenys, and a few days later he called her, and they had dinner together, and over the following month, one thing led to another, as their friendship developed.....

Glenys in the rose garden with camera Before meeting Peter, Glenys had not had much to do with flower essences. She had been a yoga teacher for many years, and had done a large amount of personal development and esoteric study, including astrology and Reiki.  However, on Peter and Glenys' very first outing together to find and identify new flowers for essence making, they found that Glenys had a natural aptitude for this work. They were in the rose garden at the Christchurch Botanical Gardens, on 19th January 2003, and Peter asked Glenys to find the three roses that needed to be found that day. Without hesitation, she led him straight to all three.

Over the next few months, Peter taught Glenys all about essences, and she proved to be a very fast learner, with a real talent for this work. By May, she was a part-time partner in the New Millennium Essences business, and from October 2003, she left her former employment in the computer industry to become Peter's full-time business partner and co-worker.

The Ostrich Foot sea essence. Click for details Among the upgrades to the New Millennium website done over this time, was the replacement of some of the flower photographs with new ones taken with the new SLR digital camera that was obtained from June 2003.  Often, Peter and Glenys would be out on a field expedition, and one or more of their “old favourites” would pop up, to be photographed with the new camera, and the much-improved images placed on the website.  Among these over this time were the Red Flowering Gum, the ToeToe, the Prickly Sow Thistle, and many of the gem and sea essences were also re-photographed, including the Ostrich Foot, the Quartz and Granite, and the Everyday Challenges.

During this time, over the winter of 2003, Glenys and Peter began work on a new project, to combine together the power of modern flower essences with aromatherapy essential oils.  Using themselves as test subjects, and also a few friends and clients, they began researching and developing new ways to combine together essential oils, and herbal extracts, with flower essences. This research led eventually to the development of new ways to combine together the healing power of the two modalities, flower essences and essential oils, and we shall speak more of this further on in this narrative. But first, we shall speak of the “Everyday Helpers”.....

As a result of these efforts, these flower essence products are now sold in a large number of health stores throughout New Zealand, and can also be bought direct from this website.

Some of the old favourites re-photographed included Piripiri, in Dunedin, Giant Geranium, in Wellington, and Plantain, on a roadside in Wairarapa.

While in Australia, the work continued, with many new flowers being discovered, among them being the Red Bottlebrush, the Hibertia, and the Everlasting Daisy.

While there, on New Years Day, Peter spent several hours exploring the area by the river-bed for wild flowers, and found several important new flowers, among them Vipers Bugloss, and Wattle (for tissue regeneration).

As well as enabling the printing of the bottle labels with a color picture of the flower, the new color laser printer also enabled the production of new essence manuals and laminated cards. These manuals are stunningly beautiful, with large full-color photos of the flowers.

They found a number of new flowers on this trip, including flowers for use in an advanced healing project, the New Generation Alchemy Essences, which have recently been released as a new essence set for advanced healing work.

One of the many new things that Glenys brought to New Millennium Essences was a knowledge of aromatherapy and essential oils, including a little kit of 30 essential oils that she used as an aid in her own health and well-being. Prior to 2003, Peter had not had much to do with essential oils, preferring to focus totally on his beloved flower essences. However, he was intrigued by Glenys' little kit, and he began experimenting with her essential oils. One thing led to another, and, by early 2004, Peter and Glenys had developed a range of blends that included essential oils, plus some of their flower essences, combining together the power of the two modalities.

Click for details One of the results of this work with essential oils was the development of several new flower essences for use in combination blends of essential oils and flower essences. These new essences act as catalysts to harmonise the energies of the two modalities, and to increase the effectiveness of the healing actions of the component essential oils and flower essences. For details of these new essences, have a look at our aromatherapy blends page.

Red and White Camellia flower essence. Click for details Another major project undertaken in 2004, and continued in 2005, was the new Animals Essences. Right since the very earliest days of the Bach Flowers, people have been using flower essences on animals with great results, and this has included our own New Millennium Essences. However, during 2004, there was an upsurge in demand for essences for helping animals, and Peter decided to develop a new range of essences specifically for animals.

The development of these animal essences also led to a new range of essence blends for animals, the Animal Helpers, which are a range of over-the-counter blends for specific animal-health issues.

Bokit Begonia, one of the Relief flower essences. Click for details Somehow, as well as finding time for the above projects, in 2004 Peter also developed a little mini-set of essences for giving people relief from emotional and physical symptoms. This came about, as usual, from a personal need, and these four essences have turned out to be so effective, that they are now the most used of all the New Millennium essences in Peter's work as an essence practitioner. Details of these four essences can be seen on the Emotional and Physical Relief mini-set page.

2005 saw a new direction for Peter, as he enrolled as a full-time student in a year-long training course in aromatherapy. This was as a direct result of the research work that was being done by Peter and Glenys on the aromatherapy blends, as detailed above, and the ongoing research and development work of developing this new combined modality.

In order to fully understand the essential oil side of this new modality, Peter decided that he needed to be formally trained as a professional aromatherapist, so he enrolled in the Aromatherapy Diploma course, at the Canterbury College of Natural Medicine, which he graduated from in November 2005, and he now is a fully-qualified aromatherapist. He is now using his new knowledge in this area in continuing the research and development of combining together flower essences and essential oils as a powerful new modality.

Click for details Since qualifying as an aromatherapist, Peter has also been researching the essential oil market, and because he was dissatisfied with the quality of most of the essential oils on sale both here in New Zealand, and also globally, he has put together a range of organic and wildcrafted essential oils of the very highest quality, which we now have available for sale.  Click on this link to see details of these organic and wildcrafted essential oils.

2005 was a hectic year for Glenys and Peter, with Peter studying full-time and with their business on a growth path. However, 2006 turned out to be just as busy, especially as they undertook a major business trip in mid-2006. For five weeks they travelled all around the North Island of New Zealand, promoting the New Millennium Essences, making sales calls on health shops, attending conferences and meetings, facilitating workshops, and all the while running their business out of the back of their car, and from motel rooms and backpackers hostels.

While on the road, the “Core Issues” essences took shape. This was very much to fill a personal need for Peter, in his own personal healing work, and his work with a few of his more “advanced” clients. He never had any intention of making these essences into a formal “set”, they were just a collection of advanced essences that he was using in his personal work. But somehow they evolved into the Core Issues Essences Set.

Click to see details of Wandjina, our new home in the country Peter and Glenys had no sooner returned home to Christchurch in July 2006, exhausted, burnt out, but happy with what they had achieved, than they felt a very powerful urge to relocate away from the city and move out into the country. They did some tidying up of their house in suburban Christchurch, getting it ready for sale in the spring, and they also began their search for their new dream home, out in the country. From September, they began the search in earnest, and on 12 October, they found it, their new home, in North Otago, on six acres of land. For details of “Wandjina”, the new home of New Millennium Essences, click on this link.

Glenys and Peter moved to their new home on 8 December 2006, and right from day one after the big move, it was a matter of having to “hit the ground running”, with it being “business as usual”, plus all the added work of looking after a six acre farm, and remodelling the farm as a certified organic permaculture property. For several months, over the summer and early autumn, there was no time for any new development work on the New Millennium Essences. However, as summer turned to autumn, Peter felt the old urge returning, and he soon became immersed in several research and development projects, including some powerful new essences, details of which will be published on this website in due course.

2007 was a hectically busy year for Peter and Glenys. What with business-as-usual for New Millennium Essences, plus all the work associated with developing and running a six-acre property. Add to this that they had never recovered from the stresses of 2005 (Peter's diploma course) and 2006 (business trip in the North Island), and it was a recipe for disaster. Well, disaster did strike.... on 18 September 2007, Peter suffered a serious accident. While bending over to pick up a little bit of firewood, an action so trivial as to be unbelievable of the consequences that were to follow. He felt something go “click” in his lower back, and at the same time in his left hip. No actual pain, but his left leg suddenly refused to support his weight and he collapsed on the ground.

For the next month, Peter was unable to walk unaided, unable to do even the most trivial of physical work. He never left the house for all that month. Worse was the fact that he was unable to get hardly any sleep, and unable to lay down at all, as various pain sites in his left leg and hip would activate as soon as he laid down, no matter what position he adopted. So for that month, he attempted to sleep sitting on a couch. After the first month, things began to gradually improve, he was able to lay down with a cushion between his knees, on his side, on top of a bed with blankets over him, but only for about two hours maximum at a time. With help from a very capable osteopath, he made a gradual recovery, that is still ongoing as this story is written, March 2008.

However, it was at the emotional level that the real recovery had to take place. Peter's body has taken drastic action to force him to cease his insane lifestyle, and to “put his money where his mouth is” as a healer. It was like his body had said to him “If you are such a damned good healer, then heal this!” Faced with no other choice, Peter set to work on his emotional healing, a process that has taken many months, and involved him going deep within to depths he never suspected existed, using all of the resources available to him, especially the New Generation Alchemy essences and the Core Issues essences, plus some more new essences that he had made in 2007. I am speaking here of many many hundreds of hours of personal healing work.

Briefly, what was happening for Peter was that every unresolved or unbalanced emotional “issue” that he had ever suffered was manifesting as a physical symptom in his legs. Symptoms like tightness, coldness, soreness, weakness, tingling, sensitivity. The symptoms would persist, causing considerable discomfort, until he identified the underlying source of each and dealt with it. It would then vanish, only to be immediately replaced by another symptom. on and on for many months, without letup or pause. By this means, Peter's body forced him to do a complete inventory of every emotional issue that he still had, and heal it completely. He had no choice.

However, by going through this process, Peter gained several enormous benefits. Firstly, he turned his life around from where it had been, over worked and highly stressed. Secondly, he now feels lighter and healthier than he has for many years, for example his face looks a lot younger and many of his grey hairs have vanished, along with the heavy load of emotional garbage. And thirdly, he has learned so much about the healing process and how it works in the body, which he can now apply to his ongoing work with the essences, for the benefit of everybody. Oh, one more thing, the physical “problem” was the femoral nerve, that runs down the outside of the upper leg, across the front of the knee and then down the shin, this nerve was pinched at the C3-C4 point of the spine. All the muscles in those parts of the left leg were pulled really tight, and the skin was extremely sensitive.

So, here we are in March 2008.  We have come a long way since those early beginnings way back in 1992.  It has been an exciting journey, that continues to unfold, as it is by no means finished yet. We will keep you posted. Watch this space.

To be continued progressively, as the story unfolds, and we also suggest that you check out our What's New Page, for details of some of our latest work.
